Persephone and Demeter
Image Size 12"H x 10"W

Susan’s beautifully detailed and elegant portrayal of Persephone & Demeter. The story and the painting have great emotional power: an innocent maiden; a mother's grief at the abduction and joy at the return of her daughter. Tears adorn Demeter’s headpiece. The imagery in this piece is a paradigm of myths that explain natural processes; the yearly descent of the goddess in Winter, (as a result of ingesting Hades gift of the pomegranate), and her yearly return to Demeter in Spring, symbolized by a garland of forest flowers encircling Persephone’s head. This myth is a telling of the budding and dying of nature, the movement of the seasons. Imagery at the bottom center of the piece depicts Persephone entering the winter portal. A sensitive and powerful piece. "Persephone and Demeter" is limited in edition to one-thousand. Each print is numbered in the margins and blind-stamped to insure authenticity. The image is printed on 140 lb. Sommerset, acid-free, archival paper using state-of-the-art archival inks. Each print has full margins.
